About Squashy Software

Squashy Software is the secret identity of Anthony Flack (that's me). Whenever I make videogames, I call myself Squashy Software and refer to myself as "us", in the standard corporate fashion. But the fact is, there's really only me here. I design the games, do the programming, make all the artwork (using clay; that's the squashy part, see) and do whatever else needs to be done. I also update this website, although with everything else going on, that doesn't happen too often. Sorry about that.

Now, people are often writing to me to ask if the graphics in my games are made with real clay. As fans of the previous paragraph will tell you, they certainly are. But for people who want to know a bit more about how it's all done, I've made up a page that describes my working methods in more detail, and you can find it here.

I have also made available some other little essays that describe my methods and general philosophy in a bit more detail, and you can read them here.

And for people who aren't interested in that arty fiddle-faddle, and just want to know about the actual games, here's a bit of information about the various projects that Squashy Software has produced to date:

Bert the Barbarian (1999)

Squashy Software has been doing its thing since some time in 1999, when I first decided to try using stop-motion animation techniques in a videogame. The first game I tried to make was called Bert the Barbarian. Notice I said "tried". It didn't work out as well as I hoped, so I never finished it. But if you like, you can check it out.

Platypus (2002)

The second game I made turned out a lot better. It's called Platypus (although nobody understands why) and it sold lots of copies and even won a few awards along the way. Unfortunately I never got to see much of the profits, but that was my own fault. You can find out more about the making of Platypus here, or you can just go straight over to the Platypus download page and play it for yourself.

Cletus Clay (TBA)

The game I've been working on since shortly after I finished Platypus (sorry it's been so long, but I can only do this stuff part-time these days). It's a much more ambitious project and I think it's going to be a good one. It's nearly finished! But not really nearly finished. I should say that it's mostly finished. If you head over to this page, you can look at the screenshots that people have been looking at for the last year or so, before emailing me to ask when it will be finished. It's mostly finished. You want me to take the time get it right, don't you?

Now Write To Me

Everyone likes to get mail. But since I don't particularly like answering the same questions over and over, I've prepared the traditional Frequently Asked Questions page to help me help you. But if you want to talk about something else, or say nice things about me, or give me an honourary degree or something, then I'd love to hear from you.

And we'll email you as soon as our next game is available to download.

You'll also be eligible for special discounts, and the chance to win a FREE game!
